Reusing Building Materials from Demolished Buildings
Saving it All, an article from the December 2010 issue of the APA journal Planning, highlights the benefits of deconstructing rather than demolishing buildings. The article presents examples of demolition from Syracuse, New York.
Exemplifying New York State’s support of these efforts, the Community Regeneration, Sustainability, and Innovation Act of 2009 is now before the House Committee on Financial Services. The legislation, HR 932, would provide funds to local governments that have lost a fifth or more of their population since 1970 to ''encourage and test innovative vacant property reclamation and urban infrastructure renewal strategies.''
